We exist because we believe that freelancers can help each other. Whether it’s forming a group to get a lower rate on insurance, or answering each other’s professional questions, everyone does better through cooperation.

By coming together in Freelancers Union, independent workers also achieve visibility. The organization works to educate policymakers and the public about the needs of freelancers. We advocate for policy changes, and through our surveys, we do research on the independent workforce that no one else is doing.

Now, we’re helping freelancers to come together in a nationwide online community to find work and share their knowledge. We offer life, disability, and dental insurance throughout the U.S., and health insurance in 31 states.

History

Freelancers Union has received grants and other support from both the State and City of New York, as well as from leading foundations, including the Ford Foundation, the John D. and Catherine T. MacArthur Foundation, J.P. Morgan Chase, the New York Community Trust, United Hospital Fund, the Rockefeller Family Fund, and others.

The search process at Woodbury Personnel begins with an in depth discussion with the client to develop an understanding of the specific position requirements, product lines and corporate personality.  Once the needs and requirements  of the position are determined, a recruiting plan is developed which involves both a file search and a name gathering/sourcing process to determine potential candidates for the assignment.  Each candidate will then be contacted through a direct telephone approach to qualify their professional, educational, and personal qualifications for the position as well as to determine their motivations to make a job change.  A personal interview is then arranged to further assess the individual's strengths and qualifications.  References are checked to verify the responsibility, accomplishments, education and salary history for those candidates meeting the criteria for the search assignment.

President

Mr. Wydman is a graduate of the Pennsylvania State University business school, with over 20 years of business experience and 20 years experience in the search industry.

His business background includes sales, sales management, marketing management and human resource management positions in a Fortune 500 company. Responsibilities have included managing people, budgets, projects and P & L statements. All this activity occurred in several businesses ranging from packaging materials, consumer and OEM markets, to working in an R & D organization, and in a start-up business unit. This broad background uniquely equips Mr. Wydman to effectively work with line and staff management in assessing and meeting their requirements.

Mr. Wydman is a member of MAPC and IRG recruiting associations and has been an Officer and Program Director. Mr. Wydman has been president of Wydman & Associates, Inc., Recruiting Consultants, and has successfully placed hundreds of people in a variety of functional positions with his client base. Steven C. Wydman

Steve is a graduate of The Pennsylvania State University's Smeal College of Business Management and holds a Masters Degree from the University of Dallas ' Graduate School of Management. He has 14 years of business experience in sales & marketing, account management, and recruiting consulting.

His business background includes the sales of high tech supply chain management systems, as well as, high level business process & I/T consulting programs focused on enterprise risk management, supply chain management, and customer & vendor management.

Steve holds a leadership position on the board of the Independent Recruiters Group (IRG) and is a board member of the Metroplex Association of Personnel Consultants (MAPC).  These associations promote and encourage high standards, efficiency, conduct and ethics of the Executive Search/Recruiting Industry .
